So I thought the clinic was at 5... It's at 7. However, as I was explaining to the Mrs. how I would probably be home around 2 I noticed one Jojo Mayer walk right behind my idling car. Now that the first of many drum nerd moments of awe has passed I'll try to get some
pics of his setup

Is it me or is Jojo's snare angle getting more extreme over the years?
Always loved how Jojo setup his gear... Looks very comfy, as if he doesn't have to abuse much movement to get to a particular sound... _________________ Got Blushda? |

Ok, so the plan was to take pics during the clinic and possibly some vids, but my iphone decided to take a crap. (i'm hoping it was a battery issue, but it still showed charge) Anyway, I did manage to record the entire clinic on my Boss MicroBR (only through the condenser mic, not a board mix).
I could never get a straight answer from anyone on whether or not it was ok to record the show, so I simply setup the unit at my feet and tried to find a common ground volume wise. I reviewed the file in my car on the way home and it seems like a good enough level. There is some clipping due to the 18" subwoofer less than 10 feet from me, but the drums are very clean and up in the mix, no OD there. However some of the Q&A section is low due to Jojo eventually forgoing his mic and speaking directly to us. I was afraid to adjust the levels as he was playing examples whilst talking.
Does anyone know of a good normalizer/enhancer I might be able to run this through? or would you all like me to simply upload the raw files and we can all take a crack at it?
I'm exhausted and I have to work tmr so I'll post it afterwards! _________________ |

sounds like a 5:4 ratio I think.
EDIT....my bad he is playing 4 on bass 3 on hats...with triplets within the 4
so a 4:3 ratio.......I had it wrong before. _________________ |

By the way...it's not a good idea to use auto gain control. _________________ |

Two things I forgot to mention regarding Jojo's masterclass....
for the grip folks (all of us)...he was constantly changing between trad and matched....AND...bead end versus butt end of the left stick.
the Sabian cut out cymbal on his secondary snare is a prototype....we were "vowed to silence" about so he said if he sees anyone using one he knows where it came from;-) _________________ |

There's a guy on Youtube that has already done Jojo's idea using a cracked cymbal. I guess Jojo and Sabian decided to make a more professional version available to the masses.
Also he using a ozone splash as a top hat in some of the pictures. I've been doing that for years. It makes a distorted hand clap type sound if anyone is wondering. _________________ |

Yeah he was really saying it kind of tongue in cheek.....some kid asked about it at the time. _________________ |
