This kind of criticism of an 8-year-old boy is kind of silly. Most kids don't hit a personal stride until they're into their late teens or even early 20s. We have no idea what this kid might do, don't know anything else about him, other than he's way, way, way ahead of the curve. Dare I say most of us would be proud if this were some video of one of US at that age. I think a player needs to at least be capable of producing facial hair and maybe a testical dropped before we start calling them a 'clone' of anything, much less a 'half-rate clone.'
If you saw me play when I was 16 you might have called me a half-rate Gadd clone. Shoot, you might still do that today.
I get expressions of frustration for every video of a kid where the bar for excellence is lowered to mediocre ... because it's a kid. To me, it's either worth my time to watch or it's not. Kids don't get the benefit of the doubt from me. But this is not mediocre. This is strong playing, no matter how awkward it might look compared to an adult.
What exactly is a half-rate clone, anyway?

sorry, should've been more clear. Again, this kid has skills, his hand-foot combos are dead on. His feel was great.
my comments were more a critique of the gospel chops type of playing. it's OT for this thread. _________________ DeSeipel |

At that age?
heck, I'd be proud if I could play gospel that well right now. That kid was on a killing spree at the end of that song, he did some really mind bogging stuff. _________________ First, we are all brothers in drumming....so fuck the notes and join the time. |

Fair enough, and apologies if it seemed like I was jumping you. It's just getting to the point that every time someone posts a gospel chops-style video, we have the "gospel chops police" jumping in with the same criticisms. I have some other, stronger opinions of the gospel chops police, but I don't think you're the guilty party, so I'll bite my tongue on the rest. _________________ Fat guys play fatter. |

Someone needs to get the little guy a set that will fit him. He's so small for that set that he is standing up and leaning against the drum stool. Not to mention that he can't even put his foot on the hi hat pedal cause he has no balance! I didn't even notice that until I realized that he wasn't opening the hi hat. _________________ |
