Re: Official Virgil Donati thread
My introduction to Virgil's genius was back in the early 90's on a shop demo clip from 'Power Drumming' in the music store I used to frequent. I was blown away but didn't hear him for quite awhile. I found the 'Power Drumming' VHS and freaked. Heard him on a Modern Drummer compilation CD. I got into...

Re: Assorted videos / YouTube thread
"Bernard Purdie said in Drumhead that Ringo wasn't on any Beatles studio records, only live." That was the most detailed interview on that subject I have read to date. Only made stranger when he said he wasn't the only "ghost" drummer on those recordings and those people should ...

Re: Allan Holdsworth R.I.P.
I bought everything that I have of his which includes all the Bruford stuff, UK, Tony Williams and his solo albums. I'm largely old school and need the liner notes and something tactile to have in my hands. The struggles of alcoholism are troubling for families to hear but when done in a non-judgeme...

Re: Allan Holdsworth R.I.P.
One thing that grabbed me years ago about Allan's music/playing was that nothing was standard. Each tune sounded different; each album sounded different. 'San Onofre' sounds like it belongs on a futuristic soundtrack. Novak's groove is majestic: [youtube_https:86aao48a]https://www.youtube.com/watch?...

It's in 15/8 if I recall. I would suggest asking Gary Husband on Facebook. (or here if he still comes around.)

Re: Weckl and Holdsworth
Hmmm. I'm on the fence with this. On the one hand I agree with you, Rodge. On the other I think back to the Bill Connors album 'Step It' where Weck had a Chad meets Gadd vibe. I understand that was then and this is now, so... I wasn't sure how Ersko would fit with Allan but he killed it: [youtube_ht...
