Re: Your Latest Fav Piece-a-Gear?
My all time favorite piece of gear is still the DW 9000 hi-hat stand. I bought one of those a few months back and found it to be too wobbly. I returned it after one rehearsal. It was also a bit of an ordeal to set up and take down. The feel was very nice, I must admit. A lot of people complain that...

My all time favorite piece of gear is still the DW 9000 hi-hat stand. I'm interested in trying their new direct drive double pedals and Dunnett's new snares.

Re: Steve Holmes vids
I think learning traditional grip is a waste of your time. If you watch any of the masters play, when they get pushed to their limit they all switch to matched grip, even Vinnie and Virgil. Virgil has spent more time than anyone trying to play loud and fast on a big kit and it just doesn't work or a...

Re: New video lesson: 32nd note phrasing
Once you learn Steve's examples you'll hear a million other ideas in your head. Thanks again to Steve for the lesson. So, it's a year later and that other lesson (Steve Holmes 32nd note ideas) is still one of the most beneficial lessons/concepts I've ever been shown. I have to thank you again for t...

Re: Best drum head brand for retaining tone
I think Remo (all Remo heads) produce more frequencies than a similar Evans. Evans heads already sound muffled/eq'd to me. Their heads seem to have less of everything I want to hear OR you might think Evans have a more focused sound.

Re: Gretsch Solid Steel snare drum
See, that kind of thing drives me insane. You know what you're doing. You know how to tighten a screw. Ludwig and Gretsch have 50 billion of these old junk strainers that they're still putting on new drums. It's ridiculous. Everything on a drumset should be adjustable with just your fingertips or a ...

Re: Gretsch Solid Steel snare drum
That website does a great job with their demos. All of the drums sound great. I was impressed with a bunch of Tamas on that site.
I'm sure the Gretsch is nice. I hate that the strainer uses regular screws but that's not that big of a deal. I might ask my local store about that drum.
