Re: VINNIE - The thread about Colaiuta

I heard he moved to Nashville. No, he has a place in Oregon and another place a bit north of LA. YES , that's what I heard also. I would LOVE it if Vinnie moved here and could see him play in clubs, but if he has or had, believe me the Nashville drumming community would have freaked out about it an...

Re: VINNIE - The thread about Colaiuta

Yeah, I really enjoyed that. It's a great conversation and there's a ton of information and food for thought.

Re: 2023 Chatty!

Pulled the big kit apart today, to tune it, and re-arrange it. Felt great to sit down at it again, afterward. Throne slightly higher, ride a bit higher up, and the x hat found its way to somewhere between the two lower toms. https://www.23hq.com/23666/125858590_d9db0b6414214e96938836521b97bab9_larg...

Re: Snarky Puppy

if I was 25 years younger and in music school, I'd probably love them. Yes, you have a point. But then again, 25 years ago would be the last time music school actually made any sense. You may as well go to typewriter repair school now for the same number of opportunities when you graduate. :mrgreen...

I feel the same way. However, if I was 25 years younger and in music school, I'd probably love them.

Re: No Payne no Gain. - The Great Sonny Payne

Hell yes. Sonny Payne is easily one of my favorite big band drummers. I mean, that Sinatra at the Sands album was my first exposure to him more than 30 years ago and it still blows me away. He definitely deserves more love and respect as a drummer.

Re: Steve Smith

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iRsmrl1A3wc At the risk of having my HOD card rescinded, I thought this was unnecessary. It's such a vanilla groove from Steve Smith, and he's not even laying into it at all. Imagine Steve Jordan (a similar age as Mr. Smith) playing this. There's something to me abou...

Holy shit, that's some GREAT drumming there. Technique, musicality, phrasing... I've never heard that before and I'm pretty floored. RIP

Re: Mr. Gadd

https://youtu.be/eMlm5l8H4mc That's just some burning shit right there! I love how Gadd is just sooooooo Gadd and no matter what he's playing it GROOVES. Incidentally, Ronnie Cuber came to the college I was attending for a concert and plays some pretty great drums. Plays traditional grip but with h...
