Re: Anika Nilles
Anika played at PASIC a couple of weeks ago. She played to tracks of just about all of the songs she's posted to YT. I agree that a lot of her appeal is with her execution of some pretty advanced concepts. When someone asked what her favorite groove to play was she played a straight funk 2 & 4 g...

Re: Eric Harland
Saw Eric Harland in January on the Friday of NAMM week. He was playing with saxophonist Ben Wendel, pianist Taylor Eigsti, and bassist Harish Raghavan at Blue Whale in LA. He played that house 4 piece ''Yamaha'' set they have there. Yes, his dynamic range and articulation at all levels was incredibl...

Re: NAMM 2014
Some random thoughts / observations of NAMM: 1) Didn't know these 3 switched over (from Yamaha, no less) until I saw their faces on the Sakae endorser wall - just as Rodge is pictured in: Ndugu Chancler, Kirk Covington, and Gary Novak. 2) Zach Danziger, and the Kerope line of Zildjians that he helpe...

Dave Elitch on Jimmy Fallon
Pretty sure that was Dave Elitch playing behind Miley Cyrus on Jimmy Fallon on Tuesday night. Cool.

Experience with Sakae Drums
Hello HOD~ Rod Esteban here - I am a drummer based in Honolulu, Hawaii and have been a HOD member since around '05 or so on the old board. I've been a Yamaha player since the mid 80's and I've been lucky enough to almost always have Yamaha sets provided as backline whenever I travel. One of the grou...

Re: Cymbals angled away?
Agree with Mark P. - I tried a slight angle away from me on the crash cymbals just because they're set up kind of low and I'm sitting a little high above them. Seems like a lot of 'gospel' guys do this, although other notable players who have been tilting cymbals away are Will Kennedy and Oscar Seat...

Re: VINNIE - Vintage videos...OK or not vintage.
Does anyone know who any of the other players are in this video, besides the obvious ones we can recognize (Blackwell, Vinnie, Dennis, Teri Lynne)? Maybe someone who attended this event back in December 2004, or someone who was at Berklee at the time could give some info on the lineup of this schola...

Re: Monster musicians backing mainstream stars
Agree that the aforementioned list of drummers/pop gigs are examples of players who are willing and able to do these types of gigs responsibly and convincingly. I like the idea that these 'monster' players can do a creative, blowing type of gig one month and then also go and play a straight groove p...

Re: Monster musicians backing mainstream stars
I've been interested in this topic for some time. I was also surprised when Rihanna started breaking big a few years ago and saw that Nuno was in the band. Certain mainstream artists always seem to have top notch players in their bands, i.e. Sting, Clapton, James Taylor, Gino Vanelli, etc.. Then of ...

Re: Recent Carlock w/ Krantz footage
+1 on the 'Long To Be Loose' recommendation and those particular tracks! I would also add the later '2 Drink Minimum' album recorded live at 55 Bar with Wayne, Lincoln Goines, and Zach for an example of what Wayne's thing sounded like back then.
