There should be no difference. The idea that 'studio' playing and 'live' playing are somehow stylistically different and require different approaches (or different technique somehow) is a myth. If anything, being put under the "studio microscope" will help to reveal issues in your playing ...

Ludwig would make sense to me, as it has more of an old-school sound and identity like Gretsch does. Plus, obviously he has quite a few Ludwigs in his snare arsenal.
