Re: Another traditional grip question.

Been playing traditional grip for 27 years. It seems to always need constant assessment and adjustment, because it's easy for bad habits to develop if you're not paying attention. For example, you have to really think about the balance point of the stick; it's easy to get in the habit of moving back...

Re: Vinnie/Gretsch divorce?

I don't get it. Slingerland may as well be a start-up. Gibson tried to revive the brand about 10 years ago and failed, which was disappointing because they made their own shells. Gibson certainly has the size and expertise to provide quality A/r, but I have to wonder specifically how Slingerland wil...

Re: Hip hop in odd time signatures?

It's going to be hard to find hip hop that has an '8' in the bottom of the time signature, but there's quite a bit in 4s.

Re: Vinnie/Gretsch divorce?

Wouldn't that be awesome if Vinnie simply chose not to endorse anything? He'd be my hero (twice over).

Re: Guitar Center Drum-Off 2011 Champion

The intro was really interesting to me. Then it became a corny showcase of hand-to-foot fills. Kid's got potential though. I like his skills. Some of the stuff he tried was really sloppy and he doesn't own it, but it was different than what we usually see from these contests.

Re: VINNIE. Vintage videos

Vinnie w/Patitucci in the late 80s/early 90s is where I start most drummers new to Vinnie. To me, it was the best example of Vinnie learning how to be Vinnie in the studio. He was so constrained, but every now and then you'd hear the reckless abandon. Just enough to be tasty. Except Scophiles, which...

Re: Weckl Age 19

First, wow, nice find! This is so cool. Hmmm. His Gadd-isms weren't nearly as prominent as I've been led to believe. The samba was TOTALLY Gadd-like, but the other stuff was standard fusion fare for the era. The first two songs could've been Steve Jordan or anyone else who playing that kind of music...
