Re: Steve Smith Back in Journey

And more importantly, with DAVID FOSTER producing. Like him or not, the guy knows-knew (I don't know what he's done lately) how to craft a hit record. I like all the Tubes records, but I LOVE those two records!!! Those records are great, but Love Bomb is insanely delicious! It may not have sold as ...

Re: Looking for this old Steve Jordan footage...

From my memory....You are probably thinking of a live performance from Montreux, it was released on a CD as "Blue Montreux" it was an all-star festival band one off consisting of The Brecker Brothers, Mainieri, Steve Khan, Tony Levin (I think,) maybe Warren Bernhardt too. Sort of early Ste...

Re: Steve Smith Back in Journey

I think it is ironic that The Tubes biggest hits are with Steve Lukather on guitar Talk to Ya Later & She's a Beauty. And more importantly, with DAVID FOSTER producing. Like him or not, the guy knows-knew (I don't know what he's done lately) how to craft a hit record. I like all the Tubes recor...

Re: Quarantine Chatty!

There are many pretenders, but this is the true ISOLATION lp... because it was 26 years ahead of its time is no penalty... this lp never gets old... I loved that record when it came out. Unfortunately, they released the worst song as a single: Stranger In Town Yeah that makes three of us, man when ...

Re: Manu Katché

I would say touch is defined as control of all dynamics, ppp to fff, without any hint of tension or uncertainty. Painting a painting with a fine detail brush vs painting with a roller. The refinement of the lower dynamics. How do you "define" touch? Seriously. Touch has everything to do w...

Re: Manu Katché

That snare sound, (in my opinion) comes from where he's playing the drum. He never seems to play dead center. He also doesn't seem to be playing that hard (lack of velocity,) and is therefore not choking the drum, and just "letting" it speak, naturally. Anyway... MSG So true. A drummer's ...

Re: The CoronaVIRUS - touring, music activity...and much more

Williams' phrased like a rock drummer with that huge "jazz" set up drum kit. Listening, I can argue what he plays does not go well this this style... yet, he is Tony Williams, so... you know how many drummers auditioned or got fired for even trying to phrase like this over the years? many...

Re: Manu Katché

Yeah Paul he sounds great in that context. I don't like many of the ECM records he has been involved in, but the live Jan Garbarek cd called "Dresden" is really good, and more non-ecm-ish, if you get what I mean. His first solo record "it's About Time" is a really good pop record...

Re: Neil Peart

Really nice, sincere, and very well done Steve, I learned a lot. He touched a lot of people, I hope he knew just how many people he affected. I wish it was more accepted for us to do things like this while people were still alive. Just a good honest appreciation for a person and his artistic contrib...

Re: Snare Drum Inquiry (give me your thoughts!!)

Hey WillyZ! Are you out East now? We should hook up if you are close by, I'm in NJ. Anyway... Stave Shells- I have a few, a Brady and a Unix. I am VERY wary of anyone making stave shells because they are relatively "easy" for someone to build-experiment in their garage, and if they don't k...
