Re: SIMON PHILLIPS - The thread about Simon

I think I understand where you're coming from, Paul. He didn't lose his house any more than anyone else there. From my personal perspective, this is a guy who's has had a profound impact on my life. Not only has he played on, and/or produced some of my favourite albums; he's also done an amazing pie...

I love Abe Laboriel Jr.

His work with Jonatha Brooke is phenomenal, as is his work with Rebekah

Re: Assorted videos / YouTube thread

Also, after Dream Theater chopped off Mangini's cojones, Travis is perhaps the most prolific ambidextrous player on the hard-hitting side of the musical spectrum. After the "samba" performance at MDF I'm not sure what cajones you're talking about. These (filmed 5 and 6 years after his MD ...

Travis is the most impressive of the "next wave" drummers as far as I'm concerned. Also, after Dream Theater chopped off Mangini's cojones, Travis is perhaps the most prolific ambidextrous player on the hard-hitting side of the musical spectrum. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1XOhAMcNAHI

Re: Official Virgil Donati thread

my favorite Virgil's sound was his days with Remo. :-) He was playing 8" and 10" toms on those drums, and I think he was using Evans Blue Hydraulic heads. Perhaps that is what you liked. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h62F6vWgPu4 Actually (and sorry for geeking out) the small tom was a 9...

Re: Official Virgil Donati thread

Virgil sounds somewhat the same to me on DW and Pearl. I agree, except for the fact that Virgil has gotten better at producing his own (videos and) audio in his studio. If you take the closing solo in Renaissance, I don't think he'd be able to produce those drum sounds 6-7 years ago: https://www.yo...

Re: Official Virgil Donati thread

Damn, killer stuff right here !!! :o Hey Jeppe, what's your favorite Virgil's sound ? I mean your favorite drum sound from him ? Premier ? Pearl ? DW ? Remo ? Good question Rodge. There's definitely no straightforward answer to it. Also, different models sound very differently. Signias vs Genistas,...
