Re: Mr. Gadd

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZzFZezWQY80 Thanks so much for this, Paul. I really appreciate seeing these two great minds in conversation together with such class, dignity, mutual respect and humility - such rare qualities by and large today. I’ve been enjoying listening to Mr Gadd more than ever...

Happy 100th Birthday to Jim Chapin!

Here in Sydney it’s the morning of Tue 23 July 2019: the 100th birthday of the great Jim Chapin! The time I spent with him in 2002 absolutely changed my life for the better in the most jam-packed way. He was 83 and at the peak of his game. There’s a photo of me with him on my Instagram here that was...

Re: VINNIE - The thread about Colaiuta

Good stuff Dave...I feel the same about the track "Negative Girl" off SD Two Against Nature.... I know what you mean about that track!!! It seems so 'complete'. Nothing extraneous, and nothing missing. Again, if I can say it: perfect! I have to add, re my post about he Eddie Daniels track...

Re: VINNIE - The thread about Colaiuta

bought this album back in the day because Vinnie was on it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F4cTq3wPtsI Thanks for this one Kurtis - I was unaware of this track. As this album isn’t on Spotify, I bought a second-hand copy of this CD on eBay, which arrived yesterday. Listening to this track makes me...

Re: Gary Novak

Hi guys... Gary always told me that he played Gretsch drums on those sessions, as you can see on YT on the studio video sessions. https://youtu.be/9VFanHUe6U0 The big solo starts at 8:55 You can see the Yamaha logo on the bass drum front head, and the legs and other details let me think that that i...

The night I opened for Benny Greb

In late May, I had to finally "shoot the horse and move on" by switching, after nearly 30 years, to matched grip from traditional grip as there were some nerves in my thumbs and index finger that couldn't cope with my too many failed attempts at it anymore. Anyway, about a week later, my f...

Re: Can we just talk Gretsch drums a bit.

I’ve never had a 20x14, so I can’t comment on it. I’ve loved the 20x16s I’ve owned previously though. As far as 18” drums go, in some ways I’ve found 18x16 drums preferable in sound over 18x14 drums. But the shell make-up and mount fittings between the different drums I’ve used are completely differ...

Right on Dave...I could care less about your playing, I just dig the Aussie accent! Typically CA dick comment right! lol Nice podcast...another notch on the drumming brotherhood covering oceans apart. "Rubbish technique" and the proverbial 'fight or flight'....glad you fought! In the end,...
