Where is the line between "modern" and "vintage" kits?

Hey, interested in discussion/information on the transition to what is the modern day kit. More specifically the switch from 4 pc. Ludwig/Slingerland style to 5 pc. Pearl/Yamaha style. Is this where the Recording Custom's legend began? It seems like something happened around 1980 that drew a big lin...

I feel like it'd need to be a soft surface to strike so you don't get the stick attack... only she sand/beads shifting around.

It's pretty papery sounding on its own but with Yamaha Impact Strip around the outside it makes a very nice sound. So nice I even used italic font.

Anyone know what's going on? This i from Ron Dunnett's facebook today:

Feeling the pain for my friends at Sabian. Their entire booth was stolen...apparently the truck took an unscheduled detour to Mexico. Not cool.

Yeah, I'm just going for it. Could have done it with a metronome or even put both slow and fast versions together, but I want to keep it simple and real. Just set up the pad and iPhone, have a few runs at it, push it hard and get the best take. I did get faster than that back in the day through end...
