Re: Drori Method in jazz drumming
Honestly...it feels weird to me watching jazz exercise videos like this one (even if the exercises are great)...it doesn't swing...a consistent pulse and a great feel should always be the unconscious lesson, no matter how complicated the exercises are. I never got the chance to experiment with different heads on them, but I would also try going with a plain clear ambassador on the bass drum. I'd suggest a coated ambassador on the kick... I use one on my Starclassic Birch 22x18 and I've never been happier with my kick sound... tuned wiiiide open w...

OT: What to do in Washington, DC?
.... well, besides the obvious stuff! I'm heading into DC at the end of the month to attend this rally that Jon Stewart and Colbert are putting on. Gary really rocks it here! My trio is going to be playing this tune... Gary plays a great homage to Ginger Baker.

Re: The infamous Polnareff tour dvd solo by Virgil
You know, I've always wondered why Virgil doesn't play two kicks... I mean, sure, he's allowed to prefer the feel of the double pedal, but still, you'd think that with his technique he'd really be able to utilize the two kick drums more than others. Maybe when he lands the Dream Theater gig? haha
