Re: Letterman drum solo week II

Yea, no disrespect. Tony is a monster player in this new fusion approach to gospel and r+b that has been going on for years. IMO his drums sound flabby and dead.( I agree with Frank about DW's). I also don't for the life of me understand the style and song choice. Swing is not Tony's strength and yo...

Re: Steve Hass new youtube channel!

I just saw this and had to share. This is some top notch musical interaction. Creative without throwing the band members or getting in the way, foundational, grooving, and musical. Like Scofield said in Modern Drummer magazine, It's all there with Hass.

Re: Drummerworld's "Top 10 Drummers of all time"

I love session drumming and it's contribution to the art, but I wouldn't include a session drummer in my top 10 unless he contributed something huge like Gadd did. I feel Gadd should be the only session guy on the list. This list should be about musical content, not gigs/work. This sort of thing is ...

Re: Steve Hass new youtube channel!

LOL He seems like a humble guy. What I find funny is that he even explained why it's a little loose. The best blue note recordings with Elvin Jones, Tony Williams etc, are all loose. They usually mess up all the figures, yet the takes are still classic. I feel that way about this. It's still really ...

I also think he may have a different perspective when it comes to popular music. In jazz, the whole concept is to be yourself and somewhat fresh and new. What about that tribute band Will Lee has for The Beatles. The Fab Faux. Those guys earn serious money doing that. I don't think Paul or Ringo mind.

Re: Modded Paradiddle Diddle thing..

Vinnie actually plays that one quite a bit, he also drops both left hand strokes at the end and replaces them with kick. Elvin was playing these licks in the 50s! :)

Re: Dave Weckl Touring Schedule !?

Amazing photos! I didn't mean to be taken offensively with the parenting and fatherhood comments. I wasn't the first to mention being a dad in this thread. I do believe knowing how these people "make it happen" is also a part of the educational process. Everyone who's a professional has to...

Re: Steve Hass new youtube channel!

Just the other day I was looking for kit examples of this "over talked about" hand technique . I found drummers demonstrating it on the pad, and snare. I found various and conflicting descriptions. The I saw this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=od-NStNHI1I on Hass' you tube channel. It's cl...
