Re: Adler Method

I think it's more about how than what. Keeping a log is always key. That way you easily see what you're working on and the connection with other stuff you do will be much more clear as well giving chart of progression that works over any length of time or daily effort. Is there a change in your pla...

Re: VINNIE - The thread about Colaiuta

Vinnie's website sent this email announcement to all members. For those who missed it, the Pilot performance can be viewed again, 2 days rental: https://www.livemusetv.com/purchase.html I got in too late the first time. Caught it this time. Well worth it. I can’t pretend to completely understand ex...

Re: DAVE WECKL - The thread about Dave

Not sure if this was posted here before but there's too many pages for me to figure it out so whatever. I like how how Chick, Patitucci, Gambale, and Merienthal (no idea if I spelled all those correctly) are all chill as F that mullet Weck is basically owning every note they improvise. [youtube_http...

Re: Can You Suggest a Swing Song?

Based on your description of what you’re looking for, I would focus on hard bop, the melodies are heavily blues orientated and often lend themselves to a consistent walking bass line. Lots of it sits right in that medium to medium-up tempo range as well.

Re: Mr. Gadd

I like this arrangement. The thing I love about Gadd is his feel is so great it makes tunes sound like they were written with him in mind for the drums.

Re: VINNIE - The thread about Colaiuta

I enjoyed the new Jing Chi record. It's definitely not blow your hair back blues fusion or whatever, but I doubt that's the record they set out to make. I thought the engineering was great as well, I love the way his drums sound on this record.

Re: Drummer monitoring help - In Ear/headphones/speaker ?

I used to use them often but then I started feeling like it was affecting my limb balance and ability to 'self-mix', so I backed off a lot. It became real easy to just reach for the mixer and solve things that I should probably have been solving with feel and touch. Now I only use them if the venue ...

Re: Official Virgil Donati thread

I come across a lot of drummers and serious musicians young and old who are very well informed musically and not aware of Virgil. Often they're aware of other [for lack of a better term here] niche or "inside" players like Benny Greb or Thomas Lang, but not Virg. This is nothing more than ...
