Re: Drum soloing 101 with Jeff Hamilton
I love Art Blakey, he is so 'from the street'. Big Huge Swing, fearless and down to earth. There is a lot of this 'University Jazz' that is besides the point of what most people like about music and therefore the audience keeps getting smaller. Sad, but somehow Jazz has come full circle imho. Jeff H...

Re: Electric and Acoustic for's and against's
When you change volume on an acoustic kit, you also change the sound or freq spectrum. This does not happen well with Edrums. The best sound you can get is with mid-field studio monitors, I use Adam with two bass woofers and cross-over filters. It works like this, if you manage to get a reasonable s...

Re: Mike J documentary video
Vinnie once replied about him being called 'The Alien' …"get real, we are all human." When I hear or see Vinnie, Dave or Dennis I can get so overwhelmed that even trying to do stuff like that feels like impossible. Like true Drum Gods. But that is not what they say we should do. Try to be ...

Re: Mike J documentary video
When studying music and training on the instrument you have to focus on different issues and skills. The youtube lessons and clinics are very usefull as a source of information but they do not provide all the feedback and interaction that you need. This has nothing to do with 'old guys vs young guys...

Re: Mike J documentary video
I'm still working on the linear approach by Kim Plainfield. He has this system of a unique voicing for every note value. Now that is a different deal. Also Garibaldi has a smart way of working with linear concepts. What is new with Mike's book?

Re: Kirk Covington
When I started to play jazz I remember asking Sean Bergin what he wantend from a drummer. He said: " don't chase my accents, don't put me in prison." Overplay in the truly bad way. Amazing to hear these issues from these musicians. They are like my hero's.

Wow…that's like the best 'drum lesson' I've heard in a while. Tough love but very true and very well put.

Re: NAMM 2014
Well, I agree with Odd-Arne that the Zildjian VC sticks are 'the best sticks in the world'… ;-]… to me. Would it not be possible for the Zildjian corp. to continue the stick and rename it? Like MSG said, the few grams and mill's on the length DO have a great impact on the overall sound and feel. Vin...

Re: Mr. Gadd
Everybody should listen to Steve Gadd every once in a while, even if it was only for hygienic reasons. He is this genius mix of being a musician and a drummer. It is his love that strikes me the most when I hear him and I always get inspiration. He makes me feel good and I always learn something. Th...
