Re: My little Wilcoxon project
The thing is, the small pad is a bit uneven in sound due to the cymbal stand screw underneath, so I'm not really hitting dead center and that kinda alters the perception. I might be more accurate than I initially thought. This one is deceiving. The 7 stroke roll followed by the sixtuplet accents is ...

Re: My little Wilcoxon project
The funny thing is, the language is already second nature. Sometimes it sounds like I'm channeling Virgil but it's the Wilcoxon stuff coming through. I mean, I can play most of the first four pages by memory. What I'm doing, actually, is keeping a record of the critical spots I find on each solo thi...

Re: My little Wilcoxon project
Yeah, I'm just going for it. Could have done it with a metronome or even put both slow and fast versions together, but I want to keep it simple and real. Just set up the pad and iPhone, have a few runs at it, push it hard and get the best take. I did get faster than that back in the day through endl...

My little Wilcoxon project
Hey, people! I just started something I've had in mind for a while. The All American Drummer has always been one of my favourite books and a must for teaching, so I'll be recording all solos on a daily basis. It's gonna take 150 days, so some of them will definitely catch me on the road and some mig...

Re: The WHY?!? snare thread.
That's quite a remarkable collection, MSG! Quite honestly, I can't afford many snare drums, so I only have 3 main drums as of now. - Yamaha Maple Custom Absolute, 14"x5,5". My main all-around snare drum. I fit it with Controlled Sound X, Ambassador Snare and Puresound Blaster wires. It get...

Re: Douchebaggery
How about stopping the gig after one song and resorting to vox populi? :) I'm sure the audience would coerce the bad apples to put the cameras down? I would approve of this :) Been there, done that. At some point in the 2013 tour the number of cell phones recording from the audience was so big it l...

Re: Yamaha Absolute Hybrid Maple
Great stuff. I'm not a huge fan of the snare drums, but bass drum and toms sound awesome, with lots of depth to them. The construction is flawless, as usual, and the lugs work wonderfully. But I miss the huge finish chart of the Absolute Series. I'm still using my MCA kit, but might end up switching...

Re: RECORDING Sessions - In the studio
The most amazing thing about the Simon clip is how close the sound is to the final mix on the record. That track has been on my playlists for many years and the sound from a home video recording at the pre-mix while it's being recorded is amazingly close. It's all in the recording proccess, folks, m...
