Re: Gretsch Solid Steel snare drum
That is a great sounding snare for sure. I wonder if it really opens up the drum to have 8 lugs. It does make sense. Paul, is the drum harder to tune because of the 'missing' 2 lugs? Paul, are both drums 8 lugs, or just the 5x14? I spec'd my Keplinger with 8 lugs - I've found the heavy shell with 8...

Re: Gretsch Solid Steel snare drum
These drums look very nice - I'm a big fan of heavy gauge steel snares. I have a Keplinger and it's the only snare that I play anymore - I've sold off my old Black Beauties, etc... The Gretsch looks great because the price is right - heavy shells are usually in the $1K and up range. I think it's a t...

Re: Grip and Fulcrum
- how do you guys approach holding / gripping / guiding the stick with matched grip? is there a particular explanation that has resonated with you? - how do you think about the wrist motion required to make a single stroke? - what adjustments or checks do you make on yourself as you're playing to k...

Re: Ricky Lawson?
Cool - any other good stories from that project? No other specific moments - it was just great to hear those great songs every day (and night) and Ricky's impeccable playing. When I knew the project was coming in, I was immediately wondering who had the drum chair - I was really excited when I foun...

Re: DAVE WECKL - Recent activity & Videos
Thanks for that one, Steve. I still have yet to see Dave with Oz. I go often to see Oz play at the Bitter End on Mondays (just braved the cold this past Monday) - but will probably have to go to the Iridium or someplace to see him with Dave. I'm very thankful that Oz does these Monday dates - not a ...

Re: Ricky Lawson?
That is how I want to go, on the stage...might as well. RIP Ricky, you were a huge influence on me. Time. Time. Time. Can't believe how good his time was...uncanny. What happens when your heroes start to pass on. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HgW2uRw1tL0 Time is right - I worked on the post produc...

Re: So, my old band got back together and
Will, I am really digging your playing on this song - thanks for posting... It's interesting to go from watching the entire GoPro camera to the edited video. IMO, you're the lead instrument in the song - don't get me wrong, everyone's parts are great, but I get so much less of a sense of your parts ...
