Re: Animals as Leaders' Matt Garstka

I like 'em. It turns out they're supporting Meshuggah this Friday in Sacramento. I happen to be sharing a bit of father-son headbanging that evening and hadn't heard of them before. Thanks for the heads up.

Re: Hihat technique - help required

I use the ball of the foot with the heel slightly off the pedal. No side to side - and the heel only comes into play for splashes. There must be YouTube video of Tony doing this, he's the master.

Re: Norman Connors & Pharoah Sanders @ Montreux 1978 DVD

That's quite list! I knew Michael Henderson was involved in the record but not all those other guys. Gary Bartz, Onaje Allen Gumbs, Anthony Jackson.... Ian Underwood! And they close the album with "The Creator Has A Master Plan," very cool. Also didn't realize Norman went back and forth be...

Norman was all avant-garde before that "Starship" single. I have an LP of him playing with Sam Rivers from the mid-70s.

Re: Roy Haynes

Interesting the same cymbal has been in such different bands with such different players over the years!

Another famous cymbal is the Tony Williams K on Neferttiti. I think I read that Lenny White ended up with it before it cracked. Wonder if it was used by other drummers on recordings.

Mine arrived a week or two ago. Very nicely done! The Havona cover is also one my favorites. Great playing all around, nice selection of material!

Re: DAVE WECKL - Recent activity & Videos

I'll just be a snotty bitch here, but if you're going to post a video give us a clue why it resonates with you, personally. I've seen far too many video posts with nothing. No comment. If you think I should watch it, tell me something. Sure, it's Weck, it's Vinnie, or it's a new guy with chops. I'll...

Re: Steven Wilson live in Mexico (Marco Minemman on drums)

Have not posted in this thread for a while. First of all, let me say that I'm a huge Gavin Harrison fan. He's the most musical player I've heard in the whatever category we decide to assign him. What a great player. Rock / fusion / pop. pick your poison. Musical, great chops, has concepts that will ...

Re: Steven Wilson live in Mexico (Marco Minemman on drums)

Ditto. Got to see the band at the Fillmore last March and it looks like they'll be back in May. I'll be there. I really enjoy Adam Holzman's contributions to the live band, he's a great player. Nick Beggs is great, too. The new SW CD is available for pre-order in various "deluxe" editions ...
