Isn't it interesting that adele and most of the popular music I know of have indistinguishable drums and sounds?

RIP Clive Burr
I guess this also is a personal hero thing. He was one of the first guys for me, playing along to Maiden records. High energy guy, solid and powerful, and played the music well. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E7UoXt9W5mw Paul Dianno was a mother of a singer then too, both he and Clive made the sound...

Re: Your personal heroes?
Mike Hyman playing with Roy Rogers. Cool vibe. He totally blew me away. Quick meter changes and forceful drumming, but cerebral. I had no idea what he was doing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JgVOK1cD8Js He's still out there, I really dig his playing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lx4Yp7JVGjY

Re: Your personal heroes?
There was a guy named Mike Hyman who I saw play with Roy Rogers the slide guitarist. They opened up for Robben Ford at the Blind Pig in Ann Arbor. Hyman played like no one Id ever seen and totally inspired me. He had some bionic coordination going on with what i later found out was a second line fee...

Re: Practice Routines - Getting on Paper
Id throw some time in there to allow for being creative, not just practicing other books and soloing. write a new rudiment, or explore something you found interesting. Record your insights. This might help you keep at it, and it will help you be more productive. If Wilcoxon can write numerous books ...

Re: Your personal heroes?
Tony Thunder Smith was a huge influence on me, I hear drums the same way he does. I used to play along to that live Beck/Hammer record a helluva lot. Cool grooves and a tight powerful sound, but with some sloppiness and bashing that wasn't too crazy, but almost out of control. Lots of odd times, but...

Re: Your personal heroes?
Mickey Curry. He has played such solid drums on so many classic tracks. Good drumming too, not simple bashing. Chris Parker. His playing on the breaks on SNL was really tasty, also played on tons of stuff. Tony Thunder Smith. Played on the live Beck Hammer stuff. Distinctive playing, I pocked up on ...
