Re: Need a new Ride Cymbal; Any suggestions?

You work at Guitar Center, don't you? If you play with fairly heavy sticks, pick up a 22" Paiste Dark Energy Mark 2. Yes I do work at GC. I'm familiar with our cymbal stock and the common go-to-cymbals. But, I value the opinion of others and do appreciate the feedback none the less. We don't s...

Re: Help with attaining buzz rolls at a gig...

From my time in the university system, when i had my orchestral snare chops revamped by my teacher, I retained a few nuggets. First off, they be called multiple bounce rolls now. There are many schools of thought here. The first university I went to, the teacher's thing was letting the stick bounce ...

Re: Playing Electronic Drums

I have a td-3... I've played all the td's, yammies, simmons, seshed some of the weird shit at NAMM... AND none of it really carries out live. Most of those examples all have backing tracks mixed in very nice with it.... I've done recordings on normal kits where some dude in the other room coughs rea...

Re: online scheduling?

What do you use to run your website? Anything like Joomla, Wordpress or Drupal? You could easily have something set up that allows students(authenticated users) to fill time slots up on a calendar. You could then have it send you email notifications or get nasty on it and have it interface with some...

Re: Simple jazz recordings for beginner playalong

First of all, this minus drums thing is starting to get to me. If you're a beginner, then you also need to learn the idiosyncratic differences in the way cats swing/phrase/emote. You playing to a combo with no drums will be no service to you other than you solidifying what you do already more. I'm t...

Re: Playing Electronic Drums

I have a set of V's. If you want get a great live sound with lots of control, leave them at home and bring your real drums. I have heard the v's evolve since they first came out, and after all the improvements, I still do not think they are good enough to be used in a performance situation except fo...

Re: A question of psychology

If it is a jazz gig, and you are playing with good players, then use the gig to make help you cope. If you're feeling dark or sad, play deep shit. It's jazz, that's what people really want to hear whether they know it or not. I mean if your girlfriend broke up with you it sucks, but focus on the mom...

Re: Army Music

One of my buddies did some time in the army. He was a guitar player and while he was stationed in the states he played around the southwest with an Army rock recruiting band. When he wasn't doing that he was crashing cymbals in the concert band. He then was deployed in Wiesbaden Germany. He did some...
