Re: Dry or singing drums?

My favorite config is the good ol' G2 over G1, which allows the drums to sing but without that ringing. But if I was to choose between two extremes I would lean towards fully singing drums. If I wanted dry, muffled sound I would go for carton boxes - much cheaper

Re: GH plays Futile Big Band Style

It's a brilliant video and Gavin never fails to impress me over and over and over again... But is anyone else annoyed how insignificant the toms come out in the mix? To me racks and floors are favorite instruments out of the entire drumkit, maybe even on a par with the snare, but I'm surpris...

Re: practice log

The second one seems to be of more general application because the former one I think is mainly good if you're building up speed. It's certainly a good idea, I think I should start using that stuff myself!

Re: My band's new EP.

Manu's right. As impatient as internet users are, nobody will want to listen to your music unless you make it as easy for them as possible to access the songs. Use Soundcloud or if you have a Facebook page of your band get one of these http://www.rootmusic.com/ . Ours looks like this: http://www.fac...

Re: New Dream Theater...

I get the impression DT knows they've found their tiny little commercial niche/formula and they have no intentions of ruining the thing that's made them moderately wealthy. They all have solo projects to do stuff that maybe is personally important to them, but DT is the commercial vehicle that pays...

Re: New Dream Theater...

To me it's a downright but highly expected disappointment. Not that the music is bad, because obviously it's not. But it's the same thing all over again. I understand that bands have styles but there is experimentation, with styles, genres, sounds, and I haven't really seen any of that since at leas...

History of contemporary music

Hello all! Would anybody know a good book, or an anthology even, on the history and development of contemporary music from the early 20th century up to now? It is my long-term plan to get my general and drumming-related knowledge updated and basically learn how what we listen to today evolved from g...

Re: Let's talk some metric modulation

Sometimes I tend to play some simple polyrhythms and, like Jojo said, I dont really count it. You have to have it down to a point where you instinctively know how two beats are intertwined and where 'one' is. But I noticed that whenever I play something like that it's the superimposed pattern that i...
