Re: Help! Bearing Edges on Maple Custom Absolutes

I don't think re-edging is your solution. I've purchased (commercially and personally) a lot of drums over the years, and Yamaha's edges were easily among the best in quality and, more importantly, consistency. Also, with a few exceptions, they're quite similar. Example: I own a MCA set (circa '09) ...

Re: Telescopic beaters?

20 degrees? Hmm ... this is a shot of an 18" YMCAN BD (using the riser) with a DW9000, and it's slightly forward (3-4 degrees), which is within normal tolerance. An Axis with the Sonor hourglass beater is a bit closer to 90. beater_angle18.jpg Here's a protractor for 20 degree angle reference: ...

Re: LAMA

I'm having a tough time interpreting the responses so far; sounds like there are differing opinions on which is the better school. I'll wait for more responses. Can anyone comment on the money issue? I am an extremely poor person; like to the point of not owning a drum set because I can't afford on...

I personally had a great experience at MI but that was 93. However, the guy that taught me the most is still there. Gary Garbitini. I know he lurks here too.

If you hung with Gary, you had a great time no matter what.

Re: Porcaro tuning thread?

I remember seeing that too. I can say this, his drums sounded phenomenal in person. While I was at PIT, someone (can't remember, I'm talking '87) sent me down to The Palace where Jeff was playing an event to coordinate some load-ins from cartage as a favor for someone at PIT, and Jeff's drums were a...

Re: Gavin and Axis pedal set up

I'm now totally officially confused. I have the standard 'A' pedals (not Longboard), and the first adjustment I made was pedal angle to beater angle. The previous owner had this pedal adjusted so that at rest the pedal was nearly on the floor and the beater nearly against the head. I've always prefe...
