Re: New stuff from Jojo / Nerve is up now
Killer stuff... This must groove so hard live. Jojo just slays me with that shuffle and hitting all those figures on the kick during the first track.

Re: New Years Eve gigs anyone?
Well... my gig was, well interesting, but fun! We had some issues with the monitors and the PA, the band was using a snake that they apparently hadn't tested so we were missing a few things. We were also on the roof, so concrete floors, a brick wall to my right... the sound wasn't the greatest, but ...

Re: Search for Portnoy's replacement continues...
Could be coincidence of course, either guy would be an interesting choice. Though I couldn't see either of those guys making any long term commitment. Yeah, I'm fairly certain that the new cat will have some sort of contract with the band... he'll be a hired gun, but will be "in the band."...

New Years Eve gigs anyone?
I'll be playing tonight on the roof of the Blind Pig in downtown Austin with some great guys in a fun band, kind of a Dave Matthews pop/rock/jam band sort of vibe. Should be a lot of fun! The only thing left to figure out is how we're going to get everything OFF the stage, downstairs into our van. W...

Re: Booking advice
Great stuff, as always, gents! I don't think either of the groups I'm booking for are ready to bust out a contract/agreement. In fact, I think pulling that out trying to get booked at the venues in Austin will just get us laughed at and gigless. At the same time, the relationship between the artist/...

Re: Sight reading
I agree with Chris. I write charts for every gig I get called for. It really helps for rehearsals, and if you're lucky enough to be able to have some rehearsing with the band, by the time the gig rolls around you can be chartless!

Booking advice
Hey gang... So, I've started to do some booking for some the groups I play with, which I've never done before. Was wondering if anyone had anything to share on the matter (good/bad experiences, what to/what not to do, etc, etc). I'm very big on professionalism and I'm quite good at schmoozing (dare ...

Re: Sight reading
I'm guessing that since you're asking about sight reading you already have some basic reading skills. That being said, sight reading comes with practice, just like anything else. Put yourself in a situation where you're going to be forced to sight read WHILE playing with people. Community College bi...
