Re: 'Secrets' reissue

I listened to CCEEBII Paint the World a TON - love that recording. It's been interesting watching Novak evolve over the years. I took a lesson with him years back, it was just a casual hang really. We didn't any drumming, just listened to a CD of me, then I pegged him with questions for a while. He...

Re: Carter McLean

I really liked the first clip. He seems like he owns his stuff, great confidence and touch.

Re: Brice Wassy

Became a fan when I couldn't stop listening to JLP "Tchokola" in 1991...still a favorite record. He is a Richard Bona - like dude...plays everything and sings...friggin good drummer. Soooo relaxed http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oqRAzem5Xic 2:48 is suspiciously similar to the outro for Man...

Looks super cool as well.

Novak always plays like somebody drank the last beer back stage -- angry. I love it.

Re: Marylin Mansons drummer!

Spoke to him briefly at the Pro Drums Xmas party a few weeks back. Really nice guy. Seems to have it all together on so many fronts. He was in the North Texas State drum line as well as a total jazzer. Was raving about the Keplinger cymbals they had at the store. Says he loves using them on jazz gi...

Re: New video lesson: 32nd note phrasing

About 3:41 into this: http://www.houseofdrumming.com/pasqua/Pasqua_Patitucci_Colaiuta7.mp3 Oh yeah, I remember this clip! As he gets into it he changes gears (modulates) using the same fill. That was always a wicked element to his version of that fill. It's like four-wheel-on-the-fly. EDIT: Ironica...

Re: New video lesson: 32nd note phrasing

Yeah once I got into this, I started recognizing when other cats like Vinnie would turn this on. It's pretty effective, good workout for the hands at faster tempos too. I like the over-the-pulse phrasings you chose. I guess this is why I thought of Vinnie. He uses them out of context all the time. ...

Re: New video lesson: 32nd note phrasing

I know Vinnie didn't invent 32nd notes (although I think this requires some historical research), but this is like the first step to a Vinnie primer.

Re: Best and fastest way to learn how to read music(?)

Hey guys, I've been playing drums for years, but don't know how to read music. What are your recommendations for learning to read music? I'd like to be able to read charts to do beat-oriented gigs (rock, country, gospel, etc.). Nothing too technical yet. Just to be able to play through songs (vocal...
