Re: Matt Chamberlain filling in Soundgarden?

Wow, both Matt C's will have played in both Soundgraden AND Pearl Jam. Great gigs to have!

Every Pearl Jam drummer has been top-notch, but my favorite has to be Dave Abbruzzese. Truly a monster!

Re: Drummers who are far better musicians than players

Great drummer with a style that compares favorably to Jeff. Can't wait to hear how he sounds with Toto.

Re: Metal drummers

A vintage cut from the 80s thrash metal scene...Gar Samuelson was a monster! Great groove and feel-not surprising, considering that he was a fusion drummer who was heavily influenced by Billy Cobham and Lenny White: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8KOZKgBiGGk Another, more famous heavy rock/fusion-in...

Re: Drummers who are far better musicians than players

I think he's really talking about drummer/musicians with a skill set more applicable to 'simpler' mainstream music, and what it takes to be that guy. It's rare someone can kill it in multiple genres. Some good drummers think more 'drumistically' and might not be in tune with the way a pop producer ...
