A recommendations thread...
Recently I've been thinking about the kind of music I enjoy and the drummers that are part of said music, and it's interesting to ponder what it is I'm drawn to about certain music and certain musicians. My (long list of) favorite drummers, currently, are (in no particular order): Steve Gadd Jeff Po...

Re: Big Weckl announcement?
Ok, here's my vote... Besides having a somewhat festive title, I think this tune will fit perfectly in the ' This is Rock ' section. As you can see from the video, it's just 4/4 'straight ahead bashing, you know... no dynamics ' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4A_tSyJBsRQ Meshuggah - New Millenium C...

Re: Steve Smith
It's interesting....Steve Smith has been an amazing player for decades, and he has taken it to an uncommonly high level in terms of technique, stylistic diversity, etc., but a lot of the stuff he does nowadays just doesn't move me like his output with Journey, early Vital Information, Steps Ahead, e...

Check out "The Aristocrats" with Guthrie Govan on guitar and Bryan Beller on bass. Marco in his element IMO.

I guess I don't see the big deal about Portnoy in general....Though to be fair, most rock drummers aren't great at soloing.
You know what they say...one MP drumkit can be enough to supply a poor village.

Re: Meet the new boss
Man, my generation (Millenials/Generation Y) is responsible for a lot of the illegal downloading that threatens the music industry (and other creative industries as well)...and I hate that fact. It's understandable though, if in a sad way: we've grown up right as the Internet has exploded in mass co...

Re: Dave DiCenso Interview is up!!
Very interesting interview! I liked the bit in Part 2 about thinking in musical shapes, as opposed to thinking in rudiment stickings. That really is bigger picture, musical thinking, and it's something that a lot of players don't really grasp (especially younger, less experienced players...like me! ...
