Re: 3 snares to do it all...
What about a piccolo? That´s a kind of flavor pretty handy to have around... True, but you said only 3 snares to cover all and piccolo's are a very narrow sound application. I have a couple, but if I was going into a studio or such and could only bring 3 snares, those would be on the last to my con...

Re: Single strokes (how to develop them)
Well said Matus! It's all about the control and feel. It's more a stylistic thing (Chambers for instance), then a speed thing. He's not actually that fast. It's more the style and feel of what he's doing that is creating the overall sound. It's the difference of like Weckl, who has very obviously fo...

Re: Single strokes (how to develop them)
Matus that is a rad routine! Thanks for sharing!
"I do that and single stroke sequences around the whole kit, Virgil Donati style."
From his old DCI vid? Where he does the 3,4,8, etc on a hand on all the drums?

Re: Single strokes (how to develop them)
Well said! The only thing I will add is is because it's such a physical activity, you MUST train daily. 15 minutes a day is eons more effective then 2 hours twice a week. You are effectively training your fast twitch muscle fibers to do a repeated motion at exhaustive levels to an ultra refined degr...

Re: 3 stages of learning to play the drums
That is a great read ( I think it was posted before?) It seems to take so many years for most students to internalize the concept of simplicity turned into complexity, that I think trying to define a particular instruments "phases" of learning may be an exercise in futility. Maslow and the...

Re: 3 snares to do it all...
1. 5" deep wood shell (stave, solid, ply, whatever as long as it's quality) 2. 6.5" or 6" deep metal shell (Again, whatever is quality. I love Copper!!) 5. Some sort of Aux snare like Gretsch mentioned. 12" is good. You can reverse the depths for material, but the principle appli...

Wow the production level of that video tells you all you need to know...
They are milking the HELL out of this situation.
It's almost de ja vu from when Metallica did there "search" for a bassist. Even down to the conference call from the studio...

Re: 3 stages of learning to play the drums
Umm man that is some pretty bad writing, just the grammatical issues alone are staggering. Read it out loud and you'll catch a lot of that hopefully. Try and refine what you are trying to get across, elaborate on your concepts in a clear and concise manor. Gotta clean up that writing there though, t...
