Re: Vinnie to back all artists @ Ken Cen-Monk Drum Competit

From Examiner.com September 25, 2012: Sunday night the three finalists—Justin Brown (Richmond, CA), Colin Stranahan (Denver, CO) and Jamison Ross (Jacksonville, FL)—performed two songs each with the judges’ decision saved for the event’s end. What was their decision—that 24-year-old Ross would be th...

Re: Vinnie to back all artists @ Ken Cen-Monk Drum Competit

I met Justin Brown (and his mother, who is also a musician) at NAMM a couple of years ago. If anything, just from speaking to them I got the idea that his mother is very supportive of his development and career. I did get the chance to see Justin play with Kenny Garrett in LA a few years back and wi...

Re: Jimmy Paxson (Jr.) Podcast

I remember meeting Jimmy at West LA Music a few years ago. I told him I searched out his recordings, etc. after seeing him with Alanis Morrisette some years back on Letterman. He couldn't have been a nicer guy! Jimmy's a real versatile player - besides his longtime Stevie Nicks gig, he does all kind...

Re: Zach Danziger Master Thread

These 1993 bootlegs are great - I'm so glad I got to see Zach with Krantz once at 55 Bar on a trip to NYC in summer of 1995. Spoke to Zach on the break and he said that he was actually subbing back on the gig that particular night. He had stopped doing it regularly at that point I think because of s...

Re: NAMM 2012

Some interesting happenings at NAMM: 1) DW booth was not on the main floor as usual. They were in a separate room upstairs by themselves. But they had the Terry Bozzio spaceship set in full display there though. 2) Met Veronica Bellino, the girl who's doing the Jeff Beck gig now, and she told me the...

Re: NAMM 2012

SABIAN LIVE at the Sheraton Park Hotel - Park Ballroom on Friday (1/20). Virgil Donati with Allan Holdsworth, Jimmy Haslip, and Dennis Hamm. Tony Royster Jr. and Friends. Mike Portnoy with Billy Sheehan, Tony MacAlpine, and Derek Sherinian. Or, what I'll probably be catching that night: another Sabi...

Re: Gene Coye?

IMHO: Yes. Go.
I've seen him on different gigs in LA before and he's a great player. Larry and Esperanza could probably call on a lot of people....

Re: Cheer up HODers!

Regarding Julia Fordham's 'Manhattan Skyline': if you can find the original studio version of this song from the album 'Porcelain', you'll hear the fill that Vinnie was approximating in the live clip. The original version was played by Manu Katche and I remember being taken by his fill also way back...

Re: NAMM

Mark Guiliana at Sabian Live on Friday was the best performance thing at NAMM this year IMO.
