Re: Vinnie out with 60 year-old bass player
I like the (hi-end) Zildjians because they seem to have a more complex pallet of sound colors. Paistes en Meinl cymbals are great but are more focussed. It might have to do with the fact that Paistes/Meinl are made out of sheet metal, and Zildjian and Sabian are die cast. Also volume wise there are ...

Loved it! Hearing & watching you play and teach is like having rocket fuel for lunch. And damn...the way you make those Yammies sing!!

Re: Most Essential Drum Books?
@ Josiah, Thanks man, the book is spelled: 'drum set warm-ups' [Essential Exercises for Improving Technique] by Rod Morgenstein. Issued by Berklee Press in 2000. Recently I've been working out of 'Rudiment Grooves for Drum Set' by Rick Considine, also Berklee Press. Some nice ideas how to translate ...

Re: Most Essential Drum Books?
There a many many great books. I'd say there are essential skills and records, not books. Some great titles that come to mind: * New Breed * Groove Essentials * Unreel * Garibaldi his books * Gavin's book on metrical modulation * John Riley his books * Drumset warmups [Morgenstein] * Vic Firth rudim...

Re: Vinnie Paiste interview
The 'interview' or monologue came across somewhat awkward or uncomfortable to me. Vinnie is no monster at marketing bs, good for him.

Re: How much money do the top drummers make?
Those days are long gone. In the latest issue of the drummag "Slagwerkkrant" is an interview with Vinnie. His words "the music industry is the new Titanic" and "I do not encourage young people to go study drums at a Conservatory, it has become pointless. Just about anybody c...

Re: Official Dirty Loops thread!
This is like the third song I hear from them, thanks for posting this! I think it is all-round fantastic what they're doing. Although I also doubt they can pull it of with that much pocket, live. Production is the best you can do within the genre. I could listen to that bass-line for a week, flawles...

Re: Vinnie spots the camera...
S.P. you nailed it imho. But I don't get all this taking stuff for granted. You don't have to put up with everything just because there is a tsunami of camera's. In a way it is kinda sick. People don't seem to be 'in the moment' but filming everything to have some kind of proof they actually are ali...
