Re: Vinnie spots the camera...
Those cymbals do sound Paiste'ish to me. The ride-bell has a much darker/lower tone and the crashes are quite 'thin'. Interesting.

Re: Vinnie/Gretsch divorce?
I hear you Paul, but the level playing field will come to be because [!] of outsourcing. Wages will rise, infrastructure will be optimized and more skilled workers [education] will be needed. It is a matter of time. Already some European companies are moving production back from Asia to North-Africa...

Re: Vinnie/Gretsch divorce?
I often use Gretsch New Classic drums, they're great really. And made in Asia. I'm in Indonesia right now @ the Java Jazz festival and brother, they love and respect the music, the artists and the history of it all. Sonor has their non-hi-end drums built in Asia as well. Asia is gonna be the 'new we...

Re: PA/Mixer Live Sound Recommendations
Way over the budget but if you can try L-Acoustics. That might be the best pro audio out there, the monitors are awesome too.

Re: New HoD Video Lesson: Drum Set Drags
Great lesson Steve! The way you talk about what you're doing and the playing itself, both are crystal clear and fantastic. How you produce your 'budget' vids is so strong because you make the viewer feel at perfect ease, like meeting a friend. Nothing distracts from the subject/learning material. By...

Re: New never-before seen Vinnie footage
Thanks so much Steve! Reading about the 'overplaying' debate I figured that sound wise the clip is a bit off balance. If you would have a mix with the drums blending better with the other instruments, it might not sound so offensive. This is often the case with great gigs taped with a 'handy cam'. I...

Re: Drum Hardware
I get your point, compared to [mountain] bikes you're right. In biking most tech serves the 'weight weenies'. Lots of carbon [which took a leap], hydraulic and titanium parts. On the other hand, Pearl is doing a great job IMHO. I love their snare- and cymbal stands. I like TAMA and DW hihat stands a...

Re: Recording Electronic Drums/Zildjian Gen 16
I work with Roland TD-20 to study and rehearse but I would rather not use it to play live or record music. Most guys working with E-drums use Toontrack for sounds and Roland for brains. Yamaha is good but my guess is that Roland is still world champion in this field.
