Checked out some Modern Essentials in person the other day...almost left with a 22" ride, but at 500 it's not a trivial purchase.

Pretty cymbals, very unique and complex sounding, with some low end power to them. The bell is unreal on that cymbal.

Crashes are very low pitched.

There is no doubt the culture is changing here in the US. Science is not easy, it is quite hard. But there are kids who are still nerds, even though it is increasingly more stigmatized to be smart. I was struck by how good the song Baby Blue was while watching Breaking Bad.

The drums don't sound perfect, nothing sounds perfect. It sounds really unique and rich.

Why Tough Teachers Get Good Results

I had the same kinds of teachers when I was in grade school and HS.
