This reads like you're being a jerk without provocation FYI.

Anyways Willy was at MI within the last 5 years or so right? I imagine these schools change a bit year to year.

Um, ok there, cowboy!

I went to LAMA, Steve, not MI.

Re: LAMA

MI is better than LAMA? really? um, ok there cowboy MI (present day) is not better than LAMA by any means. Why do you think the guys that originally started MI left it behind them when it got bought a while back and started up LAMA? MI is the Guitar Center of music schools. I'm a graduate of LAMA.....

Musicians and Taxes

We're getting into that time of year... I've kept almost every one of my receipts from any gig-related purchase over the past year (gear, gas, food, clothes, etc) and have a calender with all the dates I played this year. I'm wondering if I could use all this stuff to file in when doing taxes... The...

Re: Latin drumming teacher in LA?

If your looking to get your Brazilian chops together hit up Michael Shapiro. I think he is still at LAMA. Pick up the album "Another Season" by Kevin Lettau. Some great Brazilian feel from Michael. Lots of great phrasings and accents to pick up on. I studied with Mike (he's no longer at L...

Re: Latin drumming teacher in LA?

Re: Latin drumming teacher in LA?

Look up Aaron Serfaty. He was a session guy in Venezuela back in the day and he was one of my teachers at LAMA. He's also teaching at USC.

Re: SIMON PHILLIPS AUDIO INTERVIEW / INSIDE MISICAST

That's a great little video, mate! Simon is a class act, he's really got his shit together- and his drums always sound amazing. I remember seeing him at the Baked Potato with Jeff Richman when I first moved to LA. He was playing those Bubinga drums, 3 racks, 3 floors, and 1 kick... during the break ...

Re: Indy 500 Pit Stop Method for Changing Drum Heads?

Like Matus said, the concept relies on the theory that everything is equal, which is never true. Why is it so hard for drummers to just learn to tune a drum? It's really not that hard, and after a time, it becomes very fast. Agreed! I like the "quality time" I get with my drums when I'm i...
