Re: My little Wilcoxon project

That's a great clarification, Timbata! The only thing I don't really share, and is just a matter of which "school" you come from, is the interpretation of drags. Traditionally, a drag, just like a flam, has no actual rythmic value. They're all grace notes. It kinda loses power as opposed ...

Re: Ed Uribe

Devastating news. His work as an educator has done a lot for me and a lot of my peers. My teacher used to tell great stories of his time with him at Berklee as a great musician and enormous human being. He'll be missed.

Re: My little Wilcoxon project

Wilcoxon sometimes uses the solo to illustrate roll notations, like in study #17 (coming up this afternoon).

Re: My little Wilcoxon project

To me the 15 stroke roll text includes the drag. So, really it's a 13-stroke roll with regular 32nd note doubles starting on the & of 1 with a drag in front of it. This is how the stickings make sense. When there's no drag and alternate stickings, like the last bar on No. 4 however, then you'll...

Re: My little Wilcoxon project

Here's a bunch of them. You can notice I had to do two of them on the same afternoon, as I had literally no time to record on saturday. Re: Official Virgil Donati thread

Ok, I swear this time I didn't copy Virgil with the booms going outside the rack and coming back!

Now, really, he's on fire lately. Gotta love seeing him with so many different musicians and keeping it intense.

Re: My little Wilcoxon project

This one has always been a b**ch. The drags are so hard to pull off without sounding like regular 32nd notes.

I might just post them every 4 or 5 solos so I'm not saturating the forum...

Re: My little Wilcoxon project

Nice sevens! Ever try a moongel workout pad? Yeah, my dad got one a while ago under someone else's advice. Not what I'd recommend for an almost 60 year-old guy with basic technique, but hey, he's trying hard :) They don't really suit the kind of practicing that I do. I'd rather go for intense worko...
