Re: Grip and Fulcrum

I'm a strictly trad player but I find that when I need to break things down analytically I like to go back and revisit the Jojo Mayer vid. Understanding the physiology and physics involved really help to put it in perspective. I usually go back every couple months when I feel I'm lapsing into bad ha...

Re: Quarter life crisis, anyone?

I was out of work for a year...and over 50. I took a contract job that eventually led to the job I have now through someone I met at the contract gig. Don't be too picky about industries...I ended up as a tech writer with an ad/marketing company...i never dreamed in a million years I'd be doing that...

Re: NAMM 2014

Just drop it, guys... Let´s go back at how Yamaha moved to China and Vinnie is loose with no endorsements... :) Watching that Yamaha promo vid was actually quite funny to me "Handcrafted since 1967" - WOW "Yamaha Absolute" - WOW "Hybrid Maple" - WOW "Made in China...

Re: Jo Jones!

I was fortunate enough to see Elvin on several occasions...he sported that same joyous smile as Papa Jo.

Re: DAVE WECKL - Recent activity & Videos

I wish more guitarists had the groove that Oz possesses. There's such a deep understanding of pocket coming from all of the musicians in that video and it's refreshing to see nobody blowing chops all over the place. The "chops" that they display are much more musical and at the same time ...

Re: Sting/Paul Simon Tour

I'm guessing Gordy will be doing a lot of stuff from his recent "musical." Like someone else mentioned earlier...yawn!!! I've heard some of it on the late night shows and it's def for the theatrical crowd. My prediction is no Vincenzo Colaiuta, no Dom Miller, no David Sancious, no Seven Da...

Re: DAVE WECKL - Recent activity & Videos

Funny, Dave mentioned exactly the same thing as the guy who is engineering my current project regarding the room...my friend is looking to expand his control room so he can get farther away from the playback in order to hear all of the frequencies. Being just a player I've never given that much thou...

Re: DAVE WECKL - Recent activity & Videos

I have played lots of great drums. But Shamie Yammies are by far the easiest to tune. And when they are quickly tuned up they sound awesome. Drums that have the sound of a Greek God. The best hardware. +1...I went to the Yammie side back in April. I've been playing Gretsch since 1980 but have alway...

Re: Bill Stewart live in LA

He played Gretsch the night I saw him...had them tuned to his signature pop on each drum...one of the few guys I've heard that can get away with that tuning (making it work in the context of that guitar trio/quartet...not getting in the way of the guitar or bass range). They blended beautifully with...
