Re: Help identifying VC setup.
Not to mention the mics and process of recording, etc.. Definitely an Ayotte snare. Gotta love the super swamp groove Vince lays down, just beautiful playing. As mentioned, you're best off using your own ears to 'hand' pick your own cymbals. The player, room, sticks, mics, etc play into the overall ...

Hmm I'm have to check out these Senny's ya'll are talking about. That's been my number one issue with the Kans, is the weight. Everything else is perfect. If another product can match those but is more comfortable, heck yes!

Re: A few words on time & relating to it...
American music being so young, and music itself (percussion) being so old. It's hard to say. Like above, Buddy laid it down. Plenty of drummers are world famous, and will be influential far beyond their deaths, who have or had what we would call - bad time. But it grooved, and that's what counts. So...

Re: dave dicenso's update! and old video
I'd really like to read DiCenso's and Frip's explanation of what keeping time in the mind is as a practical matter. I'm not exactly sure what it means. I don't think I could keep good time without some physical reference, even if it's just nodding my head or my breathing rate. If I try to think abo...

I've used StudioKans for over a decade now. Fantastic headphones and the liquid filled muffs are replaceable for about $3. Highly recommend them.

It's always interesting, IMO, to check out these kinds of percussion playing where the music (and instruments) are so incredibly old compared to Drum Set. Saw Zakir in March, just mind blowing both technically and musically.
I wonder how drum set playing will be in a 1,000 years or so.

The BMI/ASCAP fees aren't a joke, I've run into many owners who tried not paying them (the fees vary on club capacity). The owners are required to pay those fees. It's all part of the law. They are large companies that can sue the pants off of small clubs. Yes, no doubt, but I don't pay those fees....

The library, radio and TV. All forms of media contain massive amounts of free music. There's internet radio as well, ever heard of Pandora? Having Pandora in my truck is any different then my iPod how? Oh and all music becomes public domain after a period of time. That period of time is a completely...
