Re: Russ Miller leaves Yamaha- Yamaha moving to China?

^^^^ I thought the same thing about the Josiah name drop. Always interesting when he was on. I dont care about the speculation, my question is about Yamaha no longer making Birch Absolutes, i have been looking for a matching large tom 16" or 18" for years and never seem to find one when I ...

Re: Standard or "Power" sizes?

I have found I get a clearer representation of the tone with shorter toms. Its not a huge difference, but i can play quieter with the shallow toms as well. I have power toms on my birch kit but standard on my maple. My 12x8 can be tuned very deep. The response is also different. The stick feels diff...

Re: Check out the track I recorded recently!

Willy is probably the youngest dude hustlin round here. Most of us are 30-40+ and probably arent going to land a big name pop tour anytime soon. He has a shot. Constructive criticism whether good or bad will help. I dig the fact that a few guys had issues down to the second. Will will probably go ba...

Re: Check out the track I recorded recently!

I think you would sound better with out them lol. It just seems that your kick drum was ahead of the riff. The 2 & 4 were on, but the kick made it feel rushed in my opinion. Could just be my ears. Other than that the drums sound great and the tom thing is cool.

Re: Songs identifiable by the drums

I guess you mean not just the drum intro buit the whole tune. If thats the case, really anything Bonham, Copeland, Carter, or Phil Collins. Barracuda springs to mind as well. If we are talking intros only- When The Levee Breaks, Ants Marching, Rosanna, Africa, Hot For Teacher, Badlands(Springsteen),...

Re: Your personal heroes?

Man that Paul Brochu dude is rippin!! What I find amusing about that vid is Im wondering where it was. People are walking by seeing this middle aged social studies teacher lookin dude tearin it up and they barely even glance. Is this a regular occurance where he is? Also, I get both excited and angr...

Re: Your personal heroes?

The first names that pop into my head are Steve Gorman(Black Crowes) and Gene Lake(Screaming Headless Torsos and Me'Shell N'degeOcello). Steve because he has a cement truck feel to him. The Crowes move with him. Meat and potatoes but heavy. Gene Lake has been a big influenece since seeing him with M...

Re: Evolution of a Drum Solo

I have to agree with Gretsch-o-rama. My favorite of all your solos was #14(I think). The last of your freeform solos with your reg bass player. I was a bit disappointed seeing you go back to your structure solo. Not that it wasnt good. It just always seemed forced. A few questions though, is this yo...
