what do drummers need to know about pedals?

What do drummers need to know about pedals? I'm writing an article about bass drum pedals from the point of view that understanding how things work helps you use it better. So how do bass drum pedals work? What specific things about the pedal do you find to be the most misunderstood and which are th...

The best single drum, ever.

Hey! I just got this drum and I'm so impressed with it, and the price, that I wanted to share. It is Gon Bops' Efrain Toro cajon. It features a slanted face so you can play cajon without bending over so much - so I can play a bar gig and not get a sore back. Almost as importantly, the tone is incred...

Re: Improving your time keeping

I would love to hear a description of when you are concentrating, what is it you are concentrating on, and how? . Well, if you have to ask... :| "If you don't know what I'm talking about, I certainly won't tell you!" You made a statement about how to improve your time, and I just asked a ...

best online step sequencers /apps

Hey - I use step sequencers regularly in teaching - both as a metronome replacement and a tool to understand notation (having students take staff notation and translate it into a step sequencer and the reverse) and also for understaning basic theory - programming in chords, arpeggios, etc. The best ...

Re: Improving your time keeping

That kind of stuff makes you concentrate more which is what makes you improve faster. The guy in the cartoon is 'concentrating' with all his might. It is actually why I put the cartoon there. There are lots of ways to concentrate. I certainly believe that what you mean by concentrating makes *you* ...

Re: Improving your time keeping

I'm not entirely sure that the act of trying to improve your time helps. It depends on how you define it. Someone who is honestly trying to improve their time will be thinking about it, processing it, etc. And thats good. Caring helps for sure. However, in my experience some things really, truly hel...

Re: Improving your time keeping

I've been doing a lot of research on this (this thread is one line of exploration) but I've found the science is ready to explain why all of what people are saying works. Time is not rooted in movement, movement is rooted in time. If the movements are off, the time is disrupted. Rhythm causes the br...

Re: blurb help!

How about this? A Matter of Time examines the implications of neuroscience on our understanding of rhythm and what it means for improving music performance. Lamb, who holds a B.S. in Biology, Psychology and Music with a Masters in Education simply explains how the brain resonates with rhythm and why...
