Re: Carlock's bass drum sound

Here you go: http://www.keithcarlock.com/discus/messages/19/38.html?1179091595 As for burying the beater-- there's no way he gets that sound from burying the beater. I'd bet the farm on it. In fact, on some recordings you can hear the beater "dribbling" or fluttering on the head, which com...

Re: WAAAY Off topic-What would you do!!!?

The main problem with being a musician is that you have to work with musicians. Man, I almost fell out when I read that. I have felt that way for years, but never had the brains to be able to put it so concisely. I basically dropped out of school for a short while to try and do music full-time. Thi...

Re: Grammy Awards 2011

I can't stand lady gaga. I just saw on the news she arrived at the awards show in an egg shell. Brilliant. Music sucks but her antics are neato. Gonna have to disagree with you. She nails the pop thing. People may say that her influences are obvious, but since when has pop music for the sake of pop...

Re: A Letter from Bob Moses to the Boston Phoenix (2001)

Bob Moses is so full of sh*t that I can smell him through my computer screen. Is here actually serious with comments like this one: "[...] or bass players who think it's okay to play Jaco's licks verbatim, albeit without the soul, groove or power of the original." With all due respect (or ...

yep, my instinct about this forum was spot on. Negative negative negative [...] The guy had a question, we had some opinions, leave it at that. I believe that almost of half of the posts that you have made here (4 out of 11, so far) have been to point out how negative someone/everyone on this board...

Re: Building Vocabulary- time frame?

The further removed a concept is from being musical, the harder it will be to apply it in a musical setting.

Re: Sting Beck Vinnie Wilkenfeld people get ready

If you guys are referring to Vinnie's "gut", I am pretty sure that it is the fan (to his left) blowing his shirt out, and is not actually "him." You can see that in the first couple seconds of the clip when he pulls his shirt out. Maybe that will help...

Re: Ask A Drum Tech!!!

Yes, this is a tractable problem. You input what force you want the head to be hit with, what force you want to hit the pedal with, in terms of your foot. If these parameters are within reason, with respect to the mechanics of the pedal, then you have three variables: mass of the beater; height of t...
