Re: 14x11 rack tom?

Two of my kits have "shallow" "floor" toms. I have a Gretsch Catalina series with a 13x11 that has a ridiculously wide tuning range. Tuned very low it has almost as much beef as a 16. My Yammie Oak Custom has a 14x12 that actually is richer in quality than my Gretsch maple 14x14....

Re: Playing w/ a Big Band with everything but bass .

I covered some gigs for a friend that didn't seem concerned about not having a bass...it was a trio, violin, guitar and drums. I felt naked every gig. I don't mind a rehearsal like that but playing gigs that way just doesn't cut it for me. We played mainly classic rock, blues and Irish traditional. ...

Re: Vinnie's New Kit (w/pics)

The forty dollar fee has Miles Copeland written all over it. Miles is one smart business mutha...he's the guy who told Branford and company that nobody's coming to see them. It's all about Sting. However, he's smart enough to know that VC is one of the most beloved icons of the drumming world so wh...

Re: "non-drummers" to the public who can actually play well

Comic Charlie Callas is another I saw a few times on the Tonight Show. Hey, did we all forget about Bruno so soon? MSG...yeah, Three Quartets...listened to that just a couple weeks ago. Chick plays some very cool, fluid shit on there. And, playing with Chick and Jack!!! Sick! That's gotta be one of ...

Re: Quarter life crisis, anyone?

I don't know- trying not to beat myself up over things I can't control and trying to be realistic about what I can control. That's all I've got for now! Onward & upward! Right there, you have a pretty good job search philosophy. This shit's gonna test you big time. Don't let any of the negative...

Looking forward to this in March perhaps ;) It's almost a year late, but when you think about...

Re: Your experience, your advice.

Advice? Get a job that pays money. Don't refuse work because it is not music related. Man-up and make some moeny. Yep, when the kids came along and I needed income and a health and retirement plan I took a rock bottom manufacturing job (and I hold an MA in Percussion). I observed and learned, took ...

Re: DAVE WECKL - Recent activity & Videos

On the acoustic vid Juan put up....what is it that Dave is doing from 4:22-4:30...to make the snare notes so continuous and fluid....is it paradiddles? It's a mix of 5 and 6 stroke rolls over (mostly) 16th note triplets. Take Ted Reed page 38. Accent the figures over 8th note triplets. Get good at ...
