Re: Interesting stuff RE music biz from Scott H

http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/news/2010/10/former-music-label-boss-beat-piracy-by-selling-albums-for-1.ars I think this may be the answer. Digital files would cost next to nothing, but their fidelity isn't as good (and most people don't care about fidelity). For those of us who wish to own the...

Re: Oak Customs

I did a record a few years back and used a friend's Oak Customs for it. They sounded great. It doesn't look like you've got the Oak snare though. The snare was really nice too. I would swap out the hoops for die-cast if possible (just because I love the sound and feel of them) but that would be expe...

Re: Interesting stuff RE music biz from Scott H

Do you realise how much music is available for free legally? You should, because that’s the way things are going. Illegal downloading isn’t going to be an issue in the future because there’s won’t be any need to do it. Yes, and you're right. If someone wants to offer their music for free, and use t...

Re: Interesting stuff RE music biz from Scott H

When I studied music we had people coming in all the time to talk about the industry. I also had dealings (not business) with a guy who ran a jazz/blues record label. He now runs festivals. PM me if you want to know who (I doubt you'll ever have heard of him). Doesn't make me an expert, but it was ...

Re: Interesting stuff RE music biz from Scott H

Incidentally, did you ever make a tape of something when you were a teenager? Perhaps recorded a song from the radio? Did you ever make a tape for a friend? Tape of a record you borrowed...perhaps from a library? Ever watched a yootoob vid that violates copyright? (someone uploaded an old video the...

Re: Interesting stuff RE music biz from Scott H

And as far as jazz/minority music goes, I question why so many of you are getting het up about things. Are any of you making millions from royalties? Are your fusion/jazz heroes making millions? Record pressings used to be in the thousands (not even tens of thousands) so the internet has broadened ...

And DSOP you are a dick, you want to physically attack someone over this, that was a pretty provocative post. Do you make your living through music? I don't think you do, Trio of Stridence...I guess you're a pretty hard guy to be in a band with if you're threatening people all the time. Internet to...

Post some links to the music that you offer to the world completely free. I can't wait to completely ignore it.

Re: Interesting stuff RE music biz from Scott H

Seems pretty elitist to flat out say "If you can't buy it, you don't get to listen to it." Music is more then a product. If we were all discussing this in the same physical room, I would hurt you. I would physically attack you. You would be bleeding and in a lot of pain. That is how mad y...
