Re: Interesting stuff RE music biz from Scott H

You guys do realize entire music genre's have become created based on "stealing" right? The Amen Break is a prime example. Anyway... If you can access music of any kind for free via every other possible medium, why not digital? How am I not stealing then, by playing in a cover band that ma...

Re: Interesting stuff RE music biz from Scott H

I had to think about it, I would say less then 1% of my income as a musician has been made from royalties. The majority of it from live performance by far. So in a sense, I don't really feel effected by downloading or at least threatened by it. So then, the question becomes: What is the difference b...

Re: Interesting stuff RE music biz from Scott H

This doesn't even pass the straight face test. Most of the works of art on display in museums are either donated by or on loan by their rightful owners. I create something and make it available for a fee. If you take it without paying that fee, you are stealing. The end. Once again, I posit you've ...

Re: OT: What to do in Washington, DC?

Haha Awesome, I'm thinkin bout going but it's a long ways from here.

I'd highly recommend the Smithsonian's or Library of Congress. If you are into museum's, you could kill 2 weeks of time at the Smiths. Dunno bout the club scene though

Re: Interesting stuff RE music biz from Scott H

Seems pretty elitist to flat out say "If you can't buy it, you don't get to listen to it." Music is more then a product. If we were all discussing this in the same physical room, I would hurt you. I would physically attack you. You would be bleeding and in a lot of pain. That is how mad y...

Re: Interesting stuff RE music biz from Scott H

That's a hard one. I agree downloading is in a sense "stealing", but lets be honest there's a TON more music that everyone would like to listen to then they can afford. Even at $1/song, my music library would cost around $100,000+, that's only around 1,000 albums. Should I not be able to l...

Re: To rimshot or not to rimshot?

Rimshots are my default back beat option, but it's about the room, music, tone, sound you want, etc

If you are experiencing any kind of pain, etc that's a technique issue that is separate from your choice of sounds when playing.

Re: Bass drum practice pads

I've used a few over the years, the Gibraltar is probably the best feel wise. I'd put the volume at about a louder practice pad. They also make mesh heads, which are really cool for practice but require a full size drum. Edit: A mic stand weight bag really helps the stability issues on the stand alo...
