Re: Maple drumsticks?

I use the same size stick.. Headhunters 5B. http://www.headhuntersdrumsticks.net/ For quieter playing I use the Maple and for louder the Hickory. They use the same knife to cut both so they are exactly the same feel and balance.. Just a slightly different tone with Maple vs Hickory and for me it dro...

Re: Drum Set Recommendations

It depends on how far you want to go.. Saying cheaper drums are as good as high end drums is true to a certain extent.. It depends on what you want to use it for.. live.. you'll be fine.. In the studio... You could be fine... You're chances are better in the studio if you have a high end kit.. You c...

Re: Drum Set Recommendations

Most of the improvements in low to mid level kits vs the 80's are in the hardware.. Rims, dicast hoops on some,.. better snare throwoffs, toms legs etc.. The main improvements in higher end stuff is the shell ply design, Like cross laminating or vertical grain stuff.. You'll get more sustain etc.. f...

Re: Drum Set Recommendations

What's your budget? What country do you live in? Realistically every major manufacturer will have something good in the top end.. What sounds are you looking for? For all around maple is good.. I think in the end it will be the hardware that should be the difference if you are going for an all aroun...

Re: De Pinging a floor tom

I think I'm slowly loosing my mind haha.. There's a comparison at the end of the video between all 3...No de pinging. max de pinging and to me good level of de ping.. There's not much of a difference to be honest but for me pinging in a floor tom bugs me.. [youtube_https:12aif1oh]https://www.youtube...

Re: De Pinging a floor tom

To me...there's a difference between the ping of the walls of the tom and sustain. I have the same floor tom boots.. and my floor in my basement is the Walmart coloured foam type mat things with a carpet on top.. I have no issues with sustain.. Just the blend of ping vs tone with a 16 by 16...

Re: De Pinging a floor tom

I just want a bit back.. It gives a bit of life to the drum that the other 2 toms have...

Am I the only one out there that hears a Basketball vibe coming out of larger toms?.. Am I just crazy?

Re: De Pinging a floor tom

It's an idea anyway.. the final result was too much de pinging to me.... I'll do a vid with the right ratio ..... need to cut the fabric down the the right amount to get get just the right amount of ping versus "Doooooom" sound.. It's interesting I never really though about it before.. One...

De Pinging a floor tom

I woke up with this idea today.. Still a little work needed to get it perfect.. but maybe the Vinnie...."Awww Yeah!!!..."Silver Sealer!!!!" "comment has some merit...
