Re: From drums to guitar

Sounding like Yngwie? NOOOOO!!! I took 4 lessons with him for hand placement, scale fingering and picking to start on a good ground and not develop bad habits, he's really good at that. What threw me off is when I asked him if he wanted to join my fusion band since our guitarist quit: "NO man, ...

Re: From drums to guitar

Here’s a pic of my 1st gig as a guitarist last Friday. It was lots of fun but the thing I found hard was to not feel the music in my body. When you play drums you have a direct strong physical and acoustic sensation of what you play. But when playing guitar on a loud and large stage with your amp 10...

Re: Big Weckl announcement?

Very cool project! I like Jay's compositions. Those first 3 tunes on Master Plan are killer! He may have been influenced by Josh Freese for record funding but in a more serious way: http://joshfreese.com/my_new_friends/ $7500 Engage in light "80's hair metal/pinup girl gossip" w/ Tommy Lee...

Re: New kit with a 5 month wait for now non-standard sizes.

I got flooded too last Autumn. Everything in the basement was damaged BUT my drums. My 2 kits were pilled in the only salvaged corner, ouf! I also waited 8 monthsfor the Yam MC 15" tom of a kit. Like everybody back in the day, I was "dangerously" becoming a Weckl clone with 8"+10...

Re: Long Distance Drum Lessons...

Well, my student was a teen coming with his dad who waited the hour in his car + the 2x45 min drive. Parents have a predominant role in the development of their children’s skills, talents and interests in art or sports. Whether the kid will make it or not depends a lot on parents motivation, encoura...

Re: Long Distance Drum Lessons...

My teaching philosophy is that if you want to study with someone then you go to his teaching place and agree to his conditions; students have to be motivated enough. In 20 years of teaching I went maybe 2 times to students place and it was to help them assemble and tune new drumsets and I charged ac...

Re: From drums to guitar

Yes, It Might Get Loud is good! 3 totally different approaches. II go see Steve Vai next month. Anyone know who's on drums for his current tour? I know it's a drum forum but I haven't signed on a guitar forum yet. Dunno if I will. I don't feel a sense of community among guitarists. Discussing with d...
