Re: Show me your Drum Room!

OK, so after a bunch of gigs, I finally had some time to do some more finishing work on the "new" drum room. I still have to do some "decorating" work, but here it is.

As you walk in....

Re: Show me your Drum Room!

I will be contributing to this thread soon. It's pretty timely. As some here may already know, I was devastated by Hurricane Irene seven months ago. My drum room got 6 foot of water in it, (it has always been a 100% dry room, except for the one time in a hundred years that my house was surrounded by...

Re: Theory of rhythm

John, The book that you are looking for, is called "The Rhythmic Structure Of Music." I have it (somewhere in my "library") and have been through it a few times. I forget the author, but I'm sure it can be found on Amazon. It deals with everything you are asking about. It leans t...

Re: Van Halen Sign to Interscope Records

PS it sound like there's 2 drum tracks layered on the outro to Drop Dead Legs..I always wondered about the decision on the production for that. Who's idea was that? It's kind of out of the blue. Steve, This thread got me listening to Van Halen on the way to and home from a jazz gig today, (nothing ...

Re: Van Halen Sign to Interscope Records

I really hope this is great news?!?! (but something tells me it will crumble, I really hope I'm wrong though!) I L O V E Van Halen (no matter who is singing.) I have seen them live a bunch of times (Fair Warning, Diver Down, 1984, 5150, For Unlawful... tours.) Alex is one of the least talked about G...

Re: If you liked ACTS II & III, you'll like....

I have the Lunn CD, and really dig it!!!! I am hearing more of a comparison to John Beasley's "Surfacing" though, and I LOVE (!!!) that CD. I like Kermit's "Revellie" as well (although that one is still marinating in my ears.) I also hear the comparison to the Summers stuff. Ther...

Re: Drum Hardware

DSOP, I basically agree with what you are saying. I have been saying for a while ("somewhat" sarcastically) that the four best "inventions" in drum gear of the last 20 years has been Evans' Magnetic key (that stays put on a lug, and doesn't rattle around;) Thrones that are ACTUAL...

Re: Let's talk EVLIN!!!

Steve, (sorry I haven't been on the "new" forum much, a student actually just told me that my name showed up on the HOD Homepage.) I always love your enthusiasm! Wayne's "Speak No Evil" is one of the all time classics (Wayne is my favorite musician! I have transcribed more solos ...

Re: Sound, Sound, Sound

When I bought my house, I was in a similar position (yes, a full time working musician who owns a house.) My drum room is in a basement below the living room (like yours.) Now, it is not "entirely" sound proof, but my wife can watch TV or nap in the living room while I am practicing downst...

Re: Help! Bearing Edges on Maple Custom Absolutes

Old Pit Guy, I'll say this as politely as I can. Sorry, but I could not disagree more!!!!!! Yes (we) people can learn to do anything (in time,) but I would NEVER suggest to anyone to do their own edges. It is an ARTFORM, not a simple skill that you can learn from an elementary explanation on line an...
