Re: Drummers poll
You can't sweat these things. The polls are dominated by 14-year-olds. When I was 14 I think I probably would've ranked the "world's greatest drummers" something like this: 1. Neil Peart Everyone else Kidding! 1. Neil Peart 2. Billy Cobham (Because I just read a Modern Drummer article the...

Re: DRUMMER'S POLL...SHOCKING RESULTS!!
As you can see, rock and metal drummers are very overrepresented, meaning this poll is more about the kind of music that people listen to not which drummer is better (if that's even possible to objectively assess=)

I love the work these people are doing, the interface is lots of fun. Portnoy's interview was very cool, I think Mike is a great guy and it shines through. Check it out.

Re: Let's talk some metric modulation
Ah right, that. I don't have the Joel Taylor track, but from your example there (I can read it now, thanks!), yeah, that's a pretty typical usage. Weckl uses the heck out of that particular idea, usually when he's playing an afro-cuban type of thing .. accents on the bell of the cymbal, with the ro...

Re: The age old "chops vs groove" debate
It's all a matter of context... Chops and groove should be relative to the music being played.. You couldn't hire Steve Gadd to play in a Death Metal band.. So for that music he wouldn't have the "Groove" needed.. Ha ha, that's using the term "Groove" differently than most of th...
