Re: Dream Theater

Interesting that in one part, the keyboard player admits to writing it complicated on purpose = musical fail imo. But, that's their bag and I get it. True, but he also said the point was to have something complicated to see how fast/well they would be able to play with it on the fly; in which case ...

Re: Single strokes (how to develop them)

Relaxation is what it's all about! The problem is that many people learn technique and do not have anything in their head to say, so they play 3 zillion notes to make up for it. I have heard many drummers with minimal technique who sound great, and many with chops galore who sound like shit. Playing...

Re: Len Davis Presents - Vinnie Colaiuta

It feels different when it's for a job, such as a gig. You use those songs to further support yourself and make a living. The 'classic' pirate downloads songs for pure entertainment (or some people just download stuff 'just so they have it'). The difference is intent and usage. on a different topic...

Re: 3 snares to do it all...

Might get boo'd on this one...

But I use my Acrolite's a LOT. They are such a workhorse of a snare. Sound great, massive tuning range, get comments all the time (both live and recorded), and they cost about $100.

Re: Len Davis Presents - Vinnie Colaiuta

Any time an industry is monopolized, and the public figures a way around that monopoly - the major companies will suffer. Everything is just changing, will music be the way it was? Of course not! What folly to think so. Radio is dead. The Ipod (or any other portable music device) revolutionized an i...

The drama unfolds....!!

I'm rooting for Virg, but I think Mike is the inevitable. Steve summed it nicely.

Re: Single strokes (how to develop them)

Ya, SnareScience is rad! Its all about knowing what you want to play. If you are having problems with playing on your kit, then you are having a musical problem. Technique is what you aquire from playing music. I'd have to disagree there. It's the other way around, developing technique is required t...

Re: Len Davis Presents - Vinnie Colaiuta

10 yrs ago, during the hey day of Napster, you had a specific number of people who stole music. Most of them wouldn't have downloaded it legally even if there was a service to do so. Why should they? Well I think you have to also look at the group of people using, say Napster - I never did personal...

Re: Len Davis Presents - Vinnie Colaiuta

As the crack down on illegal downloads continues on and more sources of getting music downloaded legally such as itunes come online I think that the money will start to flow back in... Without a doubt, the amount of digital piracy has increased 1,000x fold since the days of the BBS, and really the ...
