Re: 12 x 8 tuning issue - Yamaha players help!
A friend of mine had a RC and that 12x8" was a bitch to tune as well. He ended up re doing the bearing edges which was a huge improvement. And tuning wise, start with the 12". Then tune the 16" and save the 10" for last because it is the easiest tom to tune and adjusting that one...

Re: Do these rudimental exercises have a name?
Cool reply, I faced something similar today. I was 4 weeks in Shanghai for work without a practice pad and today I went back to page 1 Stick Control. What's the difference between rlll rlll or lllr lllr? My bad is that due to extensive shuffle playing I tend to accent the 2 and 4. My left hand is do...

Re: Do these rudimental exercises have a name?
Hey Matthijs, IMO the downbeat is just the one and not the three. Here's a link which says the same http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Downbeat_(muziek) the English version is good too http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beat_(music) JP

Re: Do these rudimental exercises have a name?
Thanks again for all the input! Much appreciated! The whole thing is about translation really. In Europe, or Holland at least, I've come across some slightly different terms or even regular wrong naming. I'll give some examples. Break - for Fill [I suppose break means pause] Afterbeat - for Backbea...

Re: Even more Gergo Borlai
Well I'm sure you all you guys are the exception!! Jojo Mayer's interview with drum department he talks about the same thing and he is of European origin. :) He also goes on to say Americans can't make fondue. Well I'd rather play jazz...:) It depends on how much you like fondue :) But as an Europe...

Re: Sting w/ Vinnie on Letterman!
"The 3.5 million Dollar from the concert is wired to the Robin Hood Foundation" What concert? Or just the Letterman gig? Vinnie rocks hard but Sting can't really do it for me anymore. The main reason I listen to Sting is because of Omar Hakim and Vinnie. And that's good enough :) But I ne...

Maybe Holdsworth is playing like this because he has tasted too much of his own brewed beer

Re: Let's talk EVLIN!!!
This album with Elvin is my favourite too! Great music and great drumming. Elvin, Tony, Blakey and Philly Joe Jones are my jazz influences. It has been said many times, but I'll say it again. Elvin really felt the entire width of the quarter note, I personally think this ability came from his extens...
