Re: What metronome do you use?

I still have the original Yamaha DTX module that I used for triggering long ago. Since, I have used it as a practice tool (click, sequences etc) and as a writing/composing tool utilizing the midi and sequencing capabilities. One cool thing to do with a machine like this is you can put together seque...

Re: A few words on time & relating to it...

This was profound for me. Thank you for sharing. In my own own effort to develop good time and metronomic consistency I find myself becoming just as critical of the musicians I play with as if I was watching a video of my own drumming. Tempo issues often times can turn into a blame game and I think...

Re: Help identifying VC setup.

Oh crap! I watched whole thing and forgot to look at the gear. That's how bad-assed that performance was. Man, ST can sing with my band any time!!!

Re: Jeff Porcaro: isolated "Beat It" track

I hear ya' Rodge. When I PLAY or PERFORM, I HAVE TO (and prefer to) think in a MUCH less analystic way (more "animal" as I think you put it.) However, when I REALLY want to learn about something, or when I really want to convey (teach about) an idea or concept, I have found that that &quo...

[quote="YamahaPlayer" Some music loves to be rushed, some music loves to drag, some music loves to be dead on time, some music loves to be sloppy or greasy. It's more a matter (IMO) of being the chameleon then being the metronome. As a bumper sticker I saw today so efficiently put - Drum m...

Re: crash clown

20" K Dark Ride!!! I use it mainly as a...ride, of course, but it really opens up nicely when playing shoulder crashes. It has just the right decay for that. It doesn't die out quickly like my thin crashes (my preferred sound for most of what I do). I only get into that crash as a ride thing as...

Re: Remember When...

My neighbor and I would play Haskell Harr duets on the front porch and nobody complained. My garage band actually practiced in garages...not rehearsal studios. Yeah, going into a record store when I was in college...coming out with RTF or Miles right alongside Yes, the Allman Bros, Bartok and Muddy ...

Re: ZOOM Q3 HD !!!!

I have the new Alesis VideoTrack. It's not HD but the audio quality is a step up. I have been looking for a no nonsense video recorder to allow me some feedback on my performances. I set it up on a mic stand fairly close to the kit and I can get a very good AV recording to pick apart later. It's a g...

Re: To rimshot or not to rimshot?

I would say I use it 90% of the time. There's that 10% of the time that is dictated by the song, the situation or simply my mood at the moment. Either way, depending on what I want it can be anywhere on the drum, stick etc.
