Re: VINNIE - The thread about Colaiuta

Is that Mino paying percussion?
Total genius, one of my favorite musicians ever!!!

I saw him an Vinnie play together years ago with Jason Miles' Weather Report Tribute band. They worked together nicely.

Re: Looking Into Purchasing A Zoom . . .

All of the videos on my youtube page are shot with my Zoom Q3HD, except for the TV clips (which are obvious.) https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCzu7ffpC7KZpo9DCqWKK0HQ/feed?view_as=public So there is a good sampling of rock and jazz both, shot up close and far away, loud and soft, and in different li...

Re: Louis Cato

Isn't Cato doing all of the above (drums, bass, guitar) on the new Colbert Show Band led by Jon Batiste? There is two drummers, I think Louis is the one in the back, and he is always switching between drums, bass, and guitar. He sounds very good on all three instruments. Talented cat, nice pocket! MSG

Re: The WHY?!? snare thread.

Well thanks, but they're just "tools" (I hate the word collection, sorry!) The N&C Aluminum is a wonderful all around drum (supra on steroids, or a supra in HD.) Nice and sensitive for brushes, cut's through loud bands, great cross stick, sounds nice in the entire tuning range, I keep ...

Re: The WHY?!? snare thread.

Interesting take on the classic SD question. WHY?? I like it the different slant! I am NOT a gear head, but I have many snares. So I don't write a ridiculously long post, I'll do this... Here is a current picture of my SD shelf (minus two.) Below I'll list all the snares, and you can ask me why I li...

Re: TOTO XIV w/Carlock

I think Paich night have had some sort of health related issues with his mouth/face recently. Look at a profile of his face now, his bottom lip looks very unlike it used to. I am just speculating, but this may be why his vocal articulation might be a little "off." Regarding Keith in Toto (...

Re: Groove Freedom App

And you are right (sorry Paul,) it IS possible to play music and drums for a living. I'm living proof! It's possible, sure, but it's also possible to win the lottery, and there's even more proof of that. Mark, if you were just starting out TODAY, do you honestly think you would be able to find enou...

Steve, I could not agree MORE with everything you just wrote! AMEN!!! And you are right (sorry Paul,) it IS possible to play music and drums for a living. I'm living proof! But it's hard and getting harder!!!! (But what isn't?) I'm one of the lucky ones, I play music and put smiles on people's faces...

Re: RIP AJ Pero

Oh man, this hits close to home. Short story. I LOVE spending some time teaching some special needs kids the drums, last year I learned that one of them LOVED Twisted Sister. The next week, I learned that a student of mine grew up (and was close) with the guys in Twisted. So I started thinking... Wi...

Re: Holdsworth Haslip Husband

I might be a little late here, (sorry, I've been swamped!) I saw this trio twice last week, and was FLOORED! Gary and I got some time (actually too much time!) to hang and do an interview, and I actually got some nice time time to chat with Maestro Holdsworth, and Jimmy who sounds GREAT on this gig!...
